> Update (2019/07/25): Please see our latest information regarding the shutdown timeline for v3 [here](https://discuss.dev.twitch.com/t/twitch-api-v3-shutdown-timeline/21931). Greetings from Twitch, We have important updates to share regarding deprecation of v3 and v5 of the Twitch API. As [previously communicated](https://blog.twitch.tv/the-new-twitch-api-be3fb2b078e6) in February 2017 and documented in the [v5 API guide](https://dev.twitch.tv/docs/v5/), Twitch planned to remove third-party support for the v3 API on December 31, 2018. However, we are delaying this process by a few weeks to provide developers more time to prepare for the upcoming changes. S…

Following up on this announcement, how can i make sure that i don’t use V3 API? How can i identify one? I know this is a silly question, but it’s not that obvious to me.

V3/V5 is `api.twitch.tv/kraken`

When using this API you send a v3 or a v5 in the header to choose which version. v3 is the current default if you don’t specify a header

New API is `api.twitch.tv/helix`

So I’m fine if i use an API that is either:

- calling [api.twitch.tv/helix](http://api.twitch.tv/helix)

or

- [api.twitch.tv/kraken](http://api.twitch.tv/kraken) with header Accept = application/vnd.twitchtv.v5+json

Right?

Yup.

In theory when v3 is removed you won’t need the v5 header. But it’s good practice to include it
