Hello Twitch Developer Team and community,
I’m developing a third-party application for PC and mobile that integrates with Twitch.
The application allows a user to sign in with their own Twitch account and explicitly authorize the application.
We would like to retrieve the authenticated user’s official Channel Points balance for a specific Twitch channel.
We do not need to create, modify, transfer, or redeem Channel Points. We only need to read the balance of the user who has authorized our application.
I understand that the public Helix API currently provides APIs for Channel Points rewards and redemptions, but I have not found an official API for retrieving the user’s current Channel Points balance.
Before considering any unsupported or undocumented approach, I wanted to ask Twitch directly:
-
Is there an official API or permission that supports this?
-
Is there a private/partner API or developer program we could apply for?
-
Could this be possible through a Twitch Extension or another supported architecture?
-
If not currently available, is there a process for requesting access to this capability for a specific application/use case?
-
Would Twitch consider a separate commercial or technical agreement for such an integration?
We believe this functionality could provide significant value to Twitch creators and their communities. It could enable many new interactive experiences built around users’ existing Channel Points, and we believe there is strong potential for adoption among Twitch communities.
We would be very interested in working directly with Twitch to make this integration available through an official and compliant solution.
The application is designed specifically around user consent: the user authenticates with Twitch and only their own balance would be requested.
We are happy to provide more information about the application, architecture, use case, expected audience, or business model if that would help.
We would strongly prefer to use an official, supported Twitch integration rather than relying on undocumented Twitch APIs.
Thank you for your time and guidance.
